We’re fully trained professionals, City & Guilds NTPC qualified, ex-CSCS certificated, insured, and have a huge amount of experience.

How does it work / What we do

Our grinding machine literally grinds the stump away to a depth of around 8” below the surrounding ground level, and severs the immediately adjacent roots. If the stump is bound by walls or concrete etc then we can usually get butt up close to these at ground level and the depth of grind will be less on that side. We leave any arisings (the earth/wood mulch) for your use elsewhere in the garden, e.g. composting or mulch, or for your disposal.

What we need to know

What sort of access is available to bring our machinery to the stump? We generally need at least 30” width in a straight line for our medium sized tracked grinding machine. The machine is also quite long so needs plenty of room to turn bends and corners – if you think it’s tricky we can usually assess your access if you send us a photo or short video.

Are there any steps or changes of level etc? If so, we can generally cope with these but like to talk it through.

Is there plenty of parking space available close to the general area? We tow a large trailer so ideally we need approx 3 car lengths room on road.

We need to know the number of stumps and their sizes. Please measure each stumps diameter at the top and diameter at ground level, and advise any additional work such as large roots coming off. We only need to know the height of stumps if they are more than a foot tall.

How big is your grinding machine?

We’ve a variety of machines available to use, but the vast majority of our work is done with a self propelled, tracked machine, weighing in at a little under 1 tonne.

How big a stump can you grind?

Literally, we can grind any size stump – big or small we have ground them all! From massive stumps over 3 meters in diameter, to very modest shrub roots we have removed them all. Most of the stumps we see are between 1ft wide to 3ft wide.

What does it cost?

Most of our domestic work, or smaller jobs, are carried out on a fixed price per stump basis – just give us the measurements and we’ll give you an accurate quote straight away. For larger or commercial jobs it may be more appropriate to agree a day rate basis, please feel free to discuss your needs with us.

What access do you require?

We need 30” width in a straight line for our 1 tonne tracked grinding machine. The machine is also quite long so doesn’t cope with bends or corners well in an enclosed space. If there’s any steps etc please let us know, we can generally cope with these but like to talk it through.

How long does it take to remove a tree stump?

Our machines don’t take any prisoners! They are purpose built and can work very quickly and effectively. For small jobs we can sometimes be in and out in as little as half an hour, but very large stumps can take many hours – a lot depends on a host of conditions, so they’re all a little different. Most of our domestic jobs take 1-2 hours.

How do we book and make payment?

Generally, we book around 2-3 weeks in advance, and often can squeeze a smaller job in much more quickly. You don’t normally need to be at home, so long as we can access the stump.

We send an invoice by email after we’ve finished the job, and you may pay by bank transfer the day after the work is complete. If you prefer, we can take payment by cash or cheque on the day.
